14 January 2007

Walking into the lounge of The Dell Care Home for Irene Osborne’s 104th birthday party on the 14th January, there was a buzz of anticipation amongst staff and residents. But this was nothing compared to the joy radiating from her happy face. Many people who reach a hundred years and more suffer from failing faculties but not Irene. Sitting in a place of honour she held court amongst her admirers and friends, greeting Pastor Alan Hodges, the BUC Ministerial Secretary, Valerie Pearce, the BUC President’s secretary, a life-long friend, and Pastor Martin Bell, Chaplain to the retired Church workers and also a life-long friend. Also present were Bob Bizzard, a local Lowestoft Community Councillor, former Matrons and employees of The Dell, and members of the Oulton Broad Church.
Irene, known before her marriage is Miss Himsworth (or Himmy), served as a Bible Worker and was on the staff of the Voice of Prophecy for many years. She declares that God is good and has given her health and strength to this great age and she encourages all who speak to her to “Trust in Jesus”.
